Hello! This is Hannah Kay Hunt — I’m currently an editorial assistant at Food Network Magazine. At FNM, I’ve written several front- and back-of-book stories–including “Know It All: Culinary School” and multiple travel write-ups in the 6-page “United States of Cheese” package–and am in charge of four monthly columns (Table of Contents, Reader Letters, “Star Search” and Masthead). I contribute items to the 3-page “Food News” section in each issue and frequently pitch larger food features, such as DIY veggie chips and the October 2013 pumpkin-decorating story. Additionally, I research and pitch all Food Network stars’ recipes included in all-star cooking roundups. I have written extensive copy for the magazine’s tablet editions and wrote eight “Copy That!” columns (featuring copycat recipes of restaurants’ signature dishes). I am also a graduate of the International Culinary Center’s (formerly French Culinary Institute’s) Culinary Techniques course – an intensive 110-hour program roughly equivalent to Levels 1 and 2 of Classic Culinary Arts. On top of all that, I assist the editor in chief at FNM and coordinate communication between Hearst and Scripps.
Before graduating from Wake Forest University in May 2012, I was an American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) intern at People, where I gained invaluable reporting experience for print and the web. I served as a member of the “Star Tracks” editorial team for all nine issues I helped close; my overall responsibilities included pitching, researching, and fact-checking weekly features, People Country, “Heroes Among Us,” Style & Beauty and the Kate Middleton style special issue. I reported red-carpet events several times each week and submitted stories for online publication, as well as transcripts, all before the following morning. During my editorial internship with Cosmopolitan, I reported health stories and pitched “Cosmo Quiz” for Pink’s June 2012 cover and the “Cosmo for Guys” iPad app. I also conducted man-on-the-street interviews and gathered dozens of stories for the monthly “Confessions” column.
